A Paradise man was arrested today on a manslaughter charge involving last week's fatal encounter with a Chico pedestrian.

Chico Police say William Llamas, 45, of Paradise was driving on Park Avenue last Thursday when some kind of altercation occurred as he was waiting at the 15 Street intersection for a man on a bike to cross. That man was 55-year-old Toby Vigil.

After an exhaustive investigation, Police say it appears Llamas tried to move Vigil away from his car by rolling it toward the Vigil, who ended up falling to the ground and hitting his head.

Llamas told police that Vigil was yelling at him and banging the hood of his car. Police say the do not believe Llamas intended to hurt Vigil, however, they say it appears that he intentionally moved his car, which resulted in Vigil's death five days later.

Llamas was arrested Thursday afternoon on suspicion of voluntary manslaughter and booked into Butte County Jail.
