A fast moving fire destroyed a travel trailer and two campers in Palermo today.
The big fear was that it would spread to nearby vegetation and take-off from there.
But fortunately, fire crews managed to extinguish the flames before that happened.
The blaze broke out just before 10:00 a.m. on property owned by James McCalleb on Knob Hill Road.
McCalleb says he left to take his wife to dialysis and returned home 20 minutes later to find the place on fire.
He shut off his power and propane tanks and used a fire extinguisher and garden hose until firefighters arrived.
McCalleb says he's grateful it wasn't worse,"I'm thankful my animals are safe, including my rooster. Thankful it wasn't worse, that it was contained to this area ... Thankful for that."
Tools, camping gear and family memorabilia stored in two of the trailers were destroyed. The other was used as a green house.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.###
