Palermo fire burns 6 acres, several structures

A 6-acre blaze destroyed a barn, several storage units and nearby vehicles Monday afternoon.

According to Butte County Cal Fire, the blaze started a little after 1 p.m. in a 2,000 square foot shop on Martha Lane. They say Upon arrival the barn was fully engulfed. The fire spread from the shop into nearby vegetation and burned six acres. Several other outbuildings sustained damages.

Fire officials say this could have been a lot worse as resources are "stretched thin," while crews aid in the wildfire efforts throughout the state.

Palermo road is now open to traffic however crews remain on scene to monitor any hot-spots.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
