A huge fire destroyed a 4,000 square foot building in Anderson early Friday morning, resulting in approximately $500,000 in damages.

The fire started around 12:15 a.m. at the future location of a plastic recycling center on the 6000 block of Eastside Road in Anderson.

Nine local agencies responded to the blaze, and additional water tenders were called in due to a lack of hydrants in the area.

Eastside Road was closed for nearly four hours while crews battled the flames.

No injuries have been reported and the cause remains under investigation.
