Oroville woman arrested on suspicion of DUI, manslaughter after morning crash

California Highway Patrol officials have released the name of the man killed in a crash early Thursday morning, and say the woman he was riding with was driving under the influence of alcohol.

Garth Taylor Daniels, 28, of Oroville was killed when the Cadillac CTS he was a passenger in drifted off the side of Foothill Boulevard and rolled over, near Oro Bangor Highway around 1:20 a.m.

CHP investigators say the driver, 29-year-old Oroville resident Deanna Marie Carey was speeding and driving under the influence when her car drifted into the opposite lane of traffic while making a sweeping turn. The car then went off the road, hit a fence, and rolled down a dirt embankment.

Daniels was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. Carey was wearing a seatbelt and suffered minor injuries, she was taken to Enloe Medical Center for treatment.

After being treated at the hospital Carey was booked into the Butte County Jail on suspicion of felony DUI causing the death of another person and manslaughter.
