Oroville is one of two towns to win a big Fourth of July party compliments of USA Today and Destination America.
Oroville, along with Waveland, Mississippi are the 2015 winners of the RED, WHITE AND YOU contest. USA Today reports that more than 2,600 entries were submitted.
The contest aims to bring a large fireworks show and Fourth of July party to two resilient towns that have not been able to enjoy big celebrations in recent years.
According to USA Today, Oroville was nominated by Deliah Robison, who asked that the many veterans who live here be recognized.
"It means a lot to those families and their community to celebrate and remember what their service was for," she wrote. "In the past, our town hosted a large fireworks show from the dam, but the costs have become too high in many previous years."
Oroville has not had a large fireworks display in recent years because of the drought and resulting budget restraints.
This summer's all expenses paid show will be held at the Oroville Dam.
Waveland, Mississippi was selected because it has not been able to hold a Fourth of July fireworks display since Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast home 10 years ago.
