A bomb scare Wednesday morning prompted the brief evacuation of Stream Charter School and nearby businesses in Oroville, authorities said.

Oroville police say a suspicious looking device was found inside a cardboard box near the school on Oro Dam Boulevard around 9:30 a.m.

A bomb technician from the Butte County Inter-Agency Bomb Squad arrived on scene and deemed the device non-explosive, and students were allowed to return to the school. Officials say the box contained a PVC pipe device, but did not speak in-depth about what it was.

The Oroville Police Department is conducting an investigation and anyone with information is asked to call 530-538-2448.
