Oroville Police say they have arrested a man for attempting to steal from the City of Oroville's Maintenance Yard. They say early Saturday morning, an officer saw a man running from inside the yard, located on Mitchell Avenue, and escaping through a hole in the security fence. They say the man was seen running into a vacant lot directly behind FoodMaxx. Items belonging to the city were spotted in a nearby pile. Oroville Police established a perimeter, and say they found a pick-up truck parked suspiciously behind FoodMaxx, containing different sizes of bolt cutters and various backpacks. They conducted a search, and say they found Kody Barnes, 33, of Oroville, hiding behind a bush. They also say a nearby building had been broken into an ransacked, with several thousand feet of various electrical wiring removed and placed outside the fence. Several parked city vehicles had fuel siphoned from them and placed into various plastic containers.

Police say Kody was arrested and booked into the Butte County Jail for Burglary, Grand Theft, Possession of stolen property, Vandalism, and Tampering with a vehicle. Barnes is being held at the Butte County Jail with $104,000 bail.

Oroville Police are asking for witnesses with any knowledge of this case or others to call (530) 538-2448.
