The Oroville City Council has approved plans to seek bidders to renovate a city-owned building into a public safety headquarters.
Half of the building, located off Larkin Road, would house a westside safety facility for both police and fire.
Councilman David Pittman says the new facility will reduce the emergency response time significantly. "From downtown and the nearest fire station is a about an eight to nine minute drive, so we'll be able to reduce that considerably be able to reduce the response time in half, maybe more."
If the city council approves a bid in June or July, the first part of the five phase plan could be completed by January 2016.
