An Oroville man accused of shooting and killing another man on Highway 70 last fall will be held for trial.

Ker Vang, 22, was in a Butte County courtroom for a preliminary hearing Tuesday. Vang is facing a half dozen criminal charges, including first degree murder, assault with a firearm with an allegation of great bodily injury, shooting at an occupied motor vehicle and three additional counts of assault with a deadly weapon with a gang enhancement.

Prosecutors say Vang shot and killed 19-year old Jar Pao while he drove on Highway 70 near Nelson Avenue in Oroville last October. A second man suffered serious injuries after being shot through the cheek. District Attorney Mike Ramsey told Action News Now the shooting was a tragic case of mistaken identity.

During Monday's hearing prosecution witnesses took the stand explaining Vang's involvement with selling drugs, including the sale of methamphetamine to Butte County Jail inmates in 2013.

Vang will be back in court on April 2 for re-entry of plea. If convicted he faces 50 years to life in prison.
