Butte County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to 2260 B Street in Oroville just after 11:15 a.m. this morning after receiving a report of a gunshot victim.
The victim, a man estimated to be in his 30s, was found in the home by responding deputies with a gunshot wound to the head. After locating the victim deputies quickly scrambled to secure the scene and cordon off the area to search for a possible suspect, but one was not located in the area.
The victim was reportedly conscious before being transported to an area hospital. His condition could not be confirmed at this time.
According to Sgt. Matt Keeling of the Butte County Sheriff's Office, the initial 911 call was for an individual with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Based on the Sheriff's Office's investigation so far deputies strongly suspect the gunshot wound was not self inflicted and that "someone else is obviously involved."
