An Oroville man convicted of killing his pregnant girlfriend in June of 2013 has been sentenced to life in prison.

A Butte County jury found Olabaku Jones guilty of second-degree murder in the death of his 33-year-old girlfriend Mary Abby Tucker last month.

Jones, who will be eligible for parole after a minimum of 38 years, told the judge during sentencing that he was not properly represented. During the trial Jones defense attorney only called one witness to the scene, and it took the jury less than three hours to return the guilty verdict.

Jones was charged with murder for beating his pregnant girlfriend in June of 2013 at their Spencer Avenue home in Oroville. When he was questioned by investigators Jones told them Tucker had slipped and fallen in the shower.
