Derrick Blanton was convicted this afternoon of 1st degree murder for his role in the death of John Loren Ball.
Blanton’s trial lasted a week and a half and jurors deliberated for four hours. In addition to the murder conviction, Blanton was convicted of attempted robbery and three separate counts of assault by firearm. He will be sentenced on March 21 at 8:30 a.m.
The murder happened December 21, 2011 at Oro Villa Apartments in Oroville and District Attorney Mike Ramsey said it was a drug robbery gone wrong. Ball died at the scene of the shooting.
