Oroville, Calif -- An Oroville man is in custody after leading officers on an early morning pursuit through Downtown Oroville.

35-year-old Lao Vang was arrested early Friday morning after leading multiple agencies on a pursuit though Downtown Oroville and crashing into a parked car.

An Action News Now viewer caught the pursuit on camera, showing squad cars chasing an SUV.

Around 1:00 a.m., the Butte County Sheriff's Department received a report of a man walking around Grand Avenue and 18th Street with a backpack, looking into mailboxes.

When BCSO Deputies arrived on scene, they tried to initiate a traffic stop, when a pursuit began through the downtown area for about 20 minutes. While eastbound on Grand Ave, Vang hit a vacant parked car and continued driving. He lost control at the intersection of High Street and Oliver Street and took off on foot. Oroville Police Officers found him hiding in the bushes near an apartment complex.

Vang was arrested for felony evading, being a convicted felon in possession of ammunition and kidnapping, as he had a female passenger in the vehicle during the pursuit. She was released. There were no injuries. Vang was booked into the Butte County Jail on $118,000 bond.
