Butte County drug agents have arrested an Oroville man they say was making his young kids grow marijuana.

Butte County drug agents searched a home on Berry Court in Oroville Wednesday and found 46-year-old Tong Thao and his three kids inside.

Thao was also in possession of more than 500 pounds of marijuana, nine pot plants and $40,000, according to a BINTF news release.

Drug agents say Thao was storing some of the marijuana in the children’s bedroom closet.

The three children, ages 5, 9, and 13 were taken into the custody of a social worker.

Thao was arrested on suspicion of cultivation of marijuana, possession of marijuana for sale, selling marijuana, child endangerment, and using a minor to process marijuana for sale.

On Thursday, BINTF agents found a safe deposit box containing $85,000 in Thao’s name at a local bank.
