The Oroville City Council will discuss its staff's recommendation to formally begin the annexation process of South Oroville and three other unincorporated areas Tuesday night.
The annexation has been on the table for discussion in Oroville for years, but now it appears a serious effort is underway to make the unincorporated area known as South Oroville part of the city.
The other areas include the Pacific Heights and Garden Drive neighborhoods and the land currently within the El Medio Fire Protection District Area.
Annexing these areas has been a topic of discussion in Oroville for more than four decades, but concerns over costs to serve the area and politics have gotten in the way.
Tonight's City Council meeting begins at 6 p.m.
