Oroville's Police Chief will address the city council Tuesday night about funding public safety, and whether "outsourcing" is an option. The council first asked the public service director to find out what the cost would be to outsource for law enforcement and fire services. He says relying on the sheriff's department would save the city about a half million dollars, but it would cost that much more to use cal fire over city firefighters. Chief La Grone's report will also address a possible sales tax increase of one percent for public safety. It would generate an estimated $3.5 million.
