The woman severely beaten in Oroville Monday has died from her injuries. According to Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey, Mary "Abby" Tucker, 33, died Wednesday at 1 o'clock. She had been declared brain dead in a Sacramento hospital earlier this week. Wednesday, Olabaku Jones, 43, made a brief but emotional court appearance in a Butte County courtroom, where he was charged in her beating. Investigators say Jones and Tucker were in a relationship. As the judge read off a series of felony charges and enhancements, Jones cried out to the court, "Just inject me now."
Jones was arrested Monday after calling 911 to report his girlfriend had slipped and fallen in the shower. Ramsey says he plans to file murder charges against Jones Thursday. Ramsey also says Jones was convicted in 2004 for sexual assaulting another woman. Tucker was 4 to 6 weeks pregnant at the time of her death. Ramsey says she may not have known she was pregnant.
