Oroville 6th grade teacher facing federal drug charges

A Durham woman indicted on federal drug charges for her alleged involvement with an online drug trafficking network, is a 6th grade teacher at Ishi Hills Middle School in Oroville.

59-year-old Teri Schell, of Durham and her husband David Schell, 54, were arrested November 6 after FBI agents learned they were accessing "Silk Road 2.0," an illicit network of websites that facilitated drug trafficking.

A search of the Schell's residence by the Chico's Homeland Security Division revealed more than 450 marijuana plants, marijuana wax and $12,000 in cash. Agents also searched a $500,000 house boat owned by the couple.

Teri Schell and her husband have been charged with conspiracy to manufacture and distribute marijuana, her husband faces an additional nine distribution charges. Both are out of custody and will be arraigned on November 26 in Sacramento.

A representative with the Oroville City Elementary School District declined to comment.
