The Chico City Council announced Wednesday that they have formally appointed Mark Orme to the permanent City Manager's Position removing the "Interim" title.
Orme was appointed Interim City Manager on June 3, just days after previous City Manager Brian Nakamura resigned to accept the City Manager's job in Rancho Cordova in Sacramento County.
With Chico facing a financial crisis, it was also announced that the City Manager's salary will be reduced by $9,500, from the $217,000 Nakamura earned while in the position.
Orme takes over a city with no general fund reserves and a $7.8 Million deficit to repay.
In a press release Mayor Scott Gruendl said "Mark Orme is exactly what our City needs at this time. The Council recognizes that it is time to move the organization forward, and clearly our new City Manager is exactly the right person to do it".
