Glenn County Sheriff's investigators say an Orland woman lost nearly $4,000 after falling for a telephone scam in which the caller claimed to be an IRS agent.
Sheriff's Officials say the 47-year-old Orland woman received the phony call Thursday July 3.
The caller claimed to be with the IRS and told the vicitm if she failed to pay $3,993 in back taxes she would be arrested by a Glenn County Sheriff's Deputy.
The victim agreed to purchase eight "Green Dot Prepaid Debit cards" for the given amount.
After purchasing the cards, she gave the caller the account number and the funds were transferred. When the victim realized she might have been scammed the money had already been transferred.
