We all know how hot it gets here in the North State during the Summer months. When it comes to cooling off there are plenty of swimming options, though some are not as safe as others.
Today, Students in Orland finished a free session at the city pool that covered basic swimming skill as well as what they need to know about staying away from hazardous situations. One third grade teacher thought this was more than needed after seeing how many of her students had a difficult time in the pool last year.
"I would say three quarters of the children couldn't swim, so I told the city if they could do anything for the kids it would be really great if we could get some swim lessons." says Roxanne Barish.
The lessons were free for students and the school paid for the city life guards hours. Although this is the first year the city has done this with the schools, they hope to continue it next year.
