All of the Orland Police Department's patrol cars are now equipped with video cameras that officials say will be a valuable crime fighting tool.
The new camera system records audio and video at all times and is linked to the Wi-Fi service at the police station, which enables the recordings to be automatically loaded onto a computer the minute the car pulls into the station.
Orland Police Chief JC Tolle says the cameras are going to help solve crimes and resolve concerns raised by citizens. Tolle said there have been situations in which people complain about an officer's behavior in a certain situation, the camera will allow officials to review the incident in question and make a judgment about the behavior in question based on hard evidence, not hearsay.
The camera system cost about $57,000.
