Oregon teen arrested after high speed chase through Redding

A 15-year-old was arrested Monday night after he allegedly lead California Highway Patrol Officers on a high speed chase through the Redding area.

The chase started on Interstate 5 southbound, near Bay Bridge Road at 5:46 p.m., when a CHP officer spotted a Nissan that had been reportedly driving erratically.

When the officer attempted to pull over the Nissan, the driver slowed to around 45 mph, but then sped up to 85 mph and continued on I-5, eventually reaching 130 mph before exiting at Oasis Road.

After getting off the interstate the driver ran a red light and then got back on the interstate. The car continued southbound at speeds over 100 mph and eventually crossed into the dirt median, the driver lost control and crossed all three lanes of the highway before hitting the shoulder just south of Hilltop Drive.

According to the CHP, after hitting the shoulder three people jumped out of the car and fled across Palisades Avenue.

With help from a CHP helicopter and the Redding Police Department, the suspects were found and arrested.

The driver and two teenage passengers were all from Medford, the Nissan was reportedly stolen in Medford as well. The 15-year-old driver was booked into the Shasta County Juvenile Hall on felony charges, the passengers were released to their parents.
