Operation Christmas Child is the world's largest Christmas project of its kind, delivering gift-filled shoe boxes with needy children around the world.
Since 1993 the coordinating non profit, the faith-based Samaritan's Purse, has collected and distributed more than 113 million of the gift boxes to children in more than 150 countries.
The effort involves more than 500 thousand volunteers worldwide, 100 thousand of them here in the United States.
For Butte, Glenn and Tehama Counties, the Calvary Chapel in Chico is the Collection point. If you want to fill a shoebox with small gifts, toiletries and school supplies ... you can drop it off at the Calvary Chapel between November 17th and 24th so they can be shipped off in time for Christmas. Local youth are recruited to help with packaging ... children helping children.
Pamphlets with instructions and labels are available at Calvary Chapel, 1888 Springfield Drive in Chico, or you can call 1-800-353-5949. There is also an Operation Christmas Child Facebook page and the website to go to is www.samaritanspurse.org.
