PHOENIX (AP) - An Arizona sheriff says the sole survivor of a medical helicopter crash carrying three crew members was seriously injured and is hospitalized in critical condition.

Pinal (pih-NAL') County Sheriff Paul Babeu (BAB'-yoo) says search aircraft spotted the crashed Native Air helicopter Tuesday night in extremely rugged terrain about 12 miles north of Superior, Arizona.

Babeu says the crashed helicopter was spotted on a mountainside about two hours after it was reported missing.

Air Methods owns the company operating the aircraft. They said the chopper was carrying a pilot, a paramedic and a nurse. Air Methods spokeswoman Christina Brodsley and Babeu said two crew members were killed.

Babeu declined to identify the survivor, but said that person was able to use a light to signal a search helicopter.
