One person was killed in a car crash on Highway 32 east of Chico. It happened around 7:15 Friday night outside Forest Ranch at Humboldt Park Drive. The driver of a Jeep heading west toward Chico lost control at a curve in the road, side-swiped a tree, knocked down a street sign then slammed into another tree.

The Jeep burst into flames and the driver was killed. It's not clear yet if the victim was a man or a woman. No witnesses actually say what happened.
CHP investigators do not know if alcohol was involved or if this is a case of distracted driving or perhaps speed. Based on skid marks it does not appear the driver had been asleep or unconscious.
