One person is injured after a gunman fired multiple rounds into a SUV early Sunday morning in the Chico south campus area.

Chico police received a call around 12:41 a.m. of reports of shots heard in the area of Third and Orange Streets.

Police responded to the area where witnesses told police a man fired four to five shots into white Chevy Tahoe.

According to Sgt. Scott Ruppel, officers received information there was a shooting victim who had gone to the emergency room at Enloe Medical Center.

Investigators say the driver of the SUV drove the victim to the hospital after the suspect shot into the vehicle striking the passenger.

Police say there were only two people in the vehicle when the suspect fired multiple rounds into the SUV.

The two victims were attending a party in the area before the shooting occurred, police said.

The shooter is described as an African-American man, wearing a long white T-shirt who fled on foot.

Ruppel says CSI have been called out to help with the investigation.
