One man dead in officer involved shooting in Oroville

UPDATE: Butte County DA Mike Ramsey says the man shot and killed at the Sunset Inn on Feather River Blvd. in Oroville Monday evening had threatened suicide. After negotiations over the phone failed, officers stormed the room where the man carrying a knife emerged from the bathroom. Three officers opened fire, killing the man. His name has not been released but he was 53-years-old and from out of the area. He'd been in Oroville working on a construction project.

Information is trickling in this evening in an officer involved shooting in Oroville.

One person is confirmed dead. Sources close to the investigation told Action News Now it appears he was shot by an officer.

However, the shooting is being investigated by the Butte County Officer Involved Shooting Protocol Team.

The shooting happened about 5pm at the Sunset Inn Motel on Feather River Boulevard in Oroville. Three Oroville Police Officers were involved in the incident. None of whom were injured. The person shot was the sole occupant of the room.
