One man is dead this morning after hitting a deer, causing the car to flip and catch fire in Meridian.

The 47-year-old victim, whose name has not been released, was driving last night just after 9 on Pass Road, east of Kellogg Road, at a high rate of speed when he collided with a deer.

He lost control of his 1986 Chevrolet Corvette, collided with a dirt embankment, overturned and caught fire.

Witnesses attempted to rescue the victim but were unsuccessful prior to the vehicle being fully engulfed in flames.

It is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were a factor.
