LOS ANGELES (AP) - Los Angeles fire officials say a woman was hospitalized in grave condition after being rescued from a strip mall engulfed in flames in the Hollywood area.
City fire spokesman Brian Humphrey says the blaze was reported shortly after 7 a.m. Wednesday.
Crews knocked down the flames in about 40 minutes after dragging the victim from the single-story structure.
Deputy Chief Joe Castro says the badly injured woman appeared to have been living in an illegally converted unit in the commercial building.
City News Service says a dog died in the fire.
The cause is under investigation.
A damage estimate was not immediately available.
