Denny Lovern has 16 alcohol-related driving convictions, most of which were in Colorado.
In November, the Arapahoe County grand jury indicted Lovern on a litany of new charges in connection with his most recent drunk-driving accident, where he reportedly admitted to police he "had a lot to drink and should not have been driving."
The grand jury indicted the 57-year-old on nine charges, including attempted first-degree assault and attempted manslaughter. Prosecutors from the 18th Judicial District added more counts of habitual criminal to Lovern's resume.
This is the first time 18th Judicial District Attorney George Brauchler says his office is going after a habitual DUI offender with a grand jury indictment. It's the only choice Brauchler says he has, calling Colorado DUI laws "weak."
