UPDATE (Friday 3:00 a.m.): Woman thrown from the car who later died at Enloe Medical Center has been identified as Haley McMahan of Chico. The other passenger, Tyler Burns, 19, who had to be extradited from the car remains in critical condition.
UPDATE ( Thursday 7:05 a.m.): The 19-year-old female passenger has died from injuries sustained in the crash. The young Chico woman has not been identified, pending notification of next of kin.
21-year old Andrew Reenan was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and was not hurt in the crash.
The male front-seat passenger identified by police as Tyler Burns, 19, remains in critical condition at Enloe Medical Center.
One person is arrested for suspicion of DUI and two others are taken to the hospital after an overnight crash in South Chico.
Around 1:45 a.m. Thursday, police responded to a single-car crash on 20th Street at C Street where a car traveling west on 20th crashed into a tree in the median, rolled, and came to rest on its wheels.
That car was destroyed.
Witnesses say a female passenger in the back seat was ejected and the male front-seat passenger was trapped inside the car, forcing first responders to use the jaws of life to get him out.
Both passengers were taken to Enloe Medical Center with major injuries.
The driver, arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, was not injured.
