Old cat adoption gimmick used by BHS, tomorrow World Spay Day

This month, the Butte Humane Society has employed a clever marketing strategy to find new homes for old cats.

It's called the certified Pre-owned cat sale.

For $15 down, 0 ‘purr'cent financing, and zero payments, you can take home a senior cat, meaning six years or older.

The Humane Society's outreach and education coordinator said the idea came from former employees who may or may not have borrowed the clever gimmick from another shelter.
But regardless, it's worked for them.

"We've had a great month with it so far," Abigail Lammel said. "A lot of our senior cats got the attention and got out of here that I think probably wouldn't have if we hadn't done something like this."

The promotion ends February 28th.

Meanwhile, two Chico locations will open their doors to provide affordable spay and neuter clinics for cats tomorrow.

It's all a part of World Spay Day, a global effort to control cat populations, keep them healthy, and save lives.

Valley Oak Veterinary Center and Paws of Chico Spay and Neuter Program will offer the quick procedure for $20, though pre-registration is required.

This the third year Valley Oak has put on a clinic, and they say it's always a crazy but rewarding day.

"It is very important that we have extreme organization," Valley Oak's Jessica Anzelone said. "And we have different stations, we've got everybody has a certain job. It's all done by volunteers..."

To pre-register your cat, call Paws of Chico at 895-8910.

They're also accepting donations.
