Parents in Magalia are on edge after several people have accused a suspicious man of approaching children near Pine Ridge Elementary.
In social media posts circulating this week, parents have said that a man has been seen on numerous occasions standing in front of the school inviting children to pet his dog.
The Butte County sheriff’s office has contacted and identified the person in question, but are not releasing his name because no crime has been committed. They did say say they are keeping the situation on their radar, and patrols in the area have increased.
Officials at the school say the story has been blown out of proportion after posts to social media spread rapidly this week.
The school is working with the sheriff’s department and has used automated calls to inform parents about the suspicious man.
Superintendent Donna Colosky tells Action News Now the school is constantly teaching students about “stranger danger” and are making sure the staff is vigilant and aware of the situation.
