The Butte County District Attorney’s Office has released new details following an officer involved shooting that left one man dead in west Chico Tuesday afternoon.

On Friday, District Attorney Mike Ramsey released a photo of the gun found underneath armed robbery suspect Eddie Gabriel Sanchez Jr. Ramsey says detectives found the Bersa .380 caliber gun cocked and with the safety off.

Officials say the 34-year-old Sanchez walked out of a house on Pomona Avenue and began approaching officers. Sanchez allegedly aimed his gun at Detective Mark Bass, who then fired at least three shots, two of which struck Sanchez in the head. Ramsey said Friday that the third round strayed into a nearby home.

Sanchez was under investigation in connection with a string of armed robberies at Chico convenience stores.
