Corning police arrested a 25-year-old man on drug and assault charges after he pulled a knife and injured two officers in the ensuing struggle Monday afternoon.

Officers were called to the Metro PCS store on Edith Avenue around 2:50 p.m. and contacted 26-year-old Anthony Jones, who had reportedly stolen a cell phone and appeared to be under the influence of drugs.

When officers approached Jones he took a fighting stance and despite being pepper sprayed after resisting further, he managed to pull a knife. Officers gained control of the knife and tased Jones, but still could not take him into custody.

Officers eventually had to tase Jones three more times before being able to take him into custody.

Jones was evaluated at St. Elizabeth's Hospital and then booked into the Tehama County Jail assault and drug charges.

Two members of the Corning Police Department were injured in the struggle, one of whom suffered a broken finger and bruising to his left temple, the other officer injured his right hand.
