An officer in San Mateo killed one pitbull and injured another using his police cruiser to strike the dogs that were repeatedly attacking area residents.

San Mateo Police officers received a report that a man was bitten by two large pitbulls. While responding to the initial report, three more reports were received of pitbull attacks.

The dogs -- weighing between 60 and 70 pounds each -- unable to corralled by police.

Police said as the dogs were "quickly and aggressively" approaching a school with young children present, one officer used his patrol vehicle to strike both animals.

One dog was killed immediately and the other retreated to the residence where San Mateo Animal Control captured it later.

One woman, who was bitten by both dogs, was treated for minor lascerations on her bicep and lower hip at the local hospital and released.

Police are investigating how the dogs escaped their owner's residence.
