A Shasta County sheriff’s deputy had two guns and tactical gear stolen from his car in Redding sometime Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.

Investigators say the thief forced entry into the deputy’s locked personal car and took a Colt M4 law enforcement tactical rifle, and a Springfield 1911 .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol, the deputy’s duty handgun.

Also stolen was the deputy’s duty belt which contained handcuffs, pepper spray, and a baton.

Shasta County Sheriff Tom Bosenko says he has launched an internal investigation into whether or not the deputy’s equipment was properly secured inside the car and the Redding Police Department is investigating the actual thefts.

Shasta County Secret Witness is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the recovery of the stolen guns. Anyone with information can call the Redding Police Department at 530-245-6540 or submit a tip anonymously by calling 530-243-2319.
