SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) - President Barack Obama says the families of the California shooting victims are "representative of the strength and the unity and the love" of their community and the nation.

Obama commented late Friday after meeting with family members of the 14 people who were killed in this month's shooting attack in San Bernardino.

Nine men and five women were slain when a married couple opened fire on the husband's co-workers at a holiday party on Dec. 2.

Obama says many of the people he spoke with asked "how we can prevent shootings like this from happening in the future."

The president stopped in California en route to Hawaii for his annual Christmas vacation with his family.
