MOJAVE, Calif. (AP) - Federal accident investigators are in Mojave, California, to begin a probe into the accident that destroyed Virgin Galactic's prototype space tourism spaceship, killing one pilot and injuring another.
The National Transportation Safety Board team from Washington, D.C., arrived at Mojave Air and Space Port early Saturday, and is expected to hold a press conference later in the day.
Virgin Galactic's SpaceShipTwo came apart high over the desert Friday morning during its fourth test flight under rocket power.
Virgin Galactic was founded by British billionaire Richard Branson who hopes to develop a fleet of spaceships to take tourists on suborbital flights more than 60 miles above Earth's surface.
