Northern California mall closes early after 2 brawls erupt

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - A Northern California mall has closed early after two separate large-scale brawls erupted among after-Christmas shoppers near the food court.

The Sacramento Bee reports ( ) that the first fight started shortly after 4:30 p.m. Friday in the food court at Sacramento's Arden Fair mall, and involved 20 or more people.

Mall security and 12 Sacramento police officers rushed to the scene responding to the brawl and ultimately false reports that shots were fired.

A second fight broke out about 90 minutes later near the food court. Police detained a handful of people who were suspected of starting the fights. No one was injured.

The mall remained open while police worked to clear people involved in the fight from the shopping center.

The mall closed at least one hour early.
