The North State Symphony received a gratuitous gift today from a prominent couple in Redding.

The symphony is a program within the Chico State College of Humanities and Fine Arts and today was the beneficiary of a donation from Robert and Anne Morgan, who passed away recently. The couple donated $1 million to the organization which is the largest monetary donation the symphony has received since it began in 2001.

"It will be a transformative gift for the North State Symphony in the way that we are able to program and bring in guest artists and enhance this cultural gem in the North State" said Robert Knight, Dean of the College of the Humanities and Fine Arts.

The North State Symphony can be traced back to 1905, when the first orchestra formed what was then the Chico State Normal School.

In 2005 they celebrated the symphony's 100th anniversary.
