People all around the North State gathered to pay tribute Thursday to the nearly 3,000 people killed in New York, at the Pentagon and near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, in the September 2001 attacks.
In Chico, firefighters and residents stopped for a moment of silence and stood together at fire station 1 for a radio announcement and annual bell ringing ceremony. The bell rings to coincide with the times the towers were struck and signal the final alarm for firefighters being called to the scene.
In Redding, community members gathered Thursday morning at the Nazarene Church. Bag Pipes and drums kicked off the ceremony at 7 a.m. as dozens of veterans gathered to pay tribute to those lost in the attacks.
Members of the Color Guard and Patriot Guard will perform another tribute at Central Valley High School in Shasta Lake tomorrow evening.
