After months of warning that our drought stricken state is in store for a ferocious wildfire season ... California fire officials say it's time for residents to get serious about clearing brush and creating evacuation plans.
CalFire declared the opening of fire season in the San Francisco Bay and Sacramento areas last week ... plans to extend the designation to the rest of Northern California starting Monday.
That means a return to full staffing.
It's about a month ahead of schedule and a reflection of the extreme fire conditions more comparable to later in the summer.
Fire season is also on in Southern California because the agency never ended it there this year.
CalFire crews already have responded to more than 1,200 wildfires across the state in 2014, twice as many as usual.###
