Get on your bike and ride, but be safe!
That's the message from the California Office of Traffic Safety Tuesday morning.
May is Bicycle Safety Month and it's also bike to work and school month.
Experts say biking is fun, healthy and economical but it can also be dangerous, if you don't follow the rules of the road.
A survey by the National Highway Transportation Administration said that bicycle injuries and fatalities have increased steadily since 2009.
The highest number of deaths was reported in 2012 with 726 deaths.
The transportation administration wants to remind bicyclists to always maintain control of your bike, wear a helmet, be visible and follow the same rules of the road as motorists.
Motorists should be aware of the three-foot distance rule when passing a bicyclist, a law that went into effect two years ago.
