Authorities have arrested a man at a North Chico mobile home park following a six hour standoff.

Chico police were called to Bianca Way, in the Meadows Mobile home park around 10:15 a.m. Thursday when a woman reported that her ex-husband, Enrique Martinez, 47, whom she had a restraining order against, was inside her house and armed with a machete.

The woman managed to get out of the house safely, but when contacted by authorities Martinez refused to exit the home.

As police were trying to coax the man out of the home they began to smell a strong scent of propane and called Pacific Gas and Electric crews to the scene and had the gas to surrounding homes shut off.

Several nearby homes were evacuated and a SWAT team was called to assist.

Martinez finally surrendered around 3:15 p.m. as the SWAT team prepared to enter the house.

Action News Now Reporter Cecile Juliette was on the scene all day and will have a recap of today’s events at 5 and 6 p.m.
