No charges have been filed in the fatal stabbing of an Oroville man outside a Chico home February 19, due to a lack of evidence District Attorney Mike Ramsey said Monday.

A suspect in the murder, Michael Anderson, of Chico, was arrested February 24 after a pursuit in Glenn County.

Investigators believe Anderson stabbed 37-year-old Joel Eldridge, of Oroville, after a fight outside a home on the corner of Mulberry Street and W. 23rd Street Thursday February 19.

District Attorney Mike Ramsey said investigators have not recovered the murder weapon, and there is not evidence to prove that Anderson wasn't acting in reasonable self-defense. Last Friday members of the Butte County Search and Rescue Team along with Chico police conducted an evidence search in a grassy area near Hegan Lane, just outside of Chico. The search did not turn up any new evidence.

Despite the lack of charges, Anderson is being held in the Butte County Jail on two counts of vehicle theft and a first degree burglary charge.
