NFL television ratings flourished this week, despite the league having possibly the worst public relations week in history.
According to Nielsen's list of top the television programs for September 8-14, NFL programming accounted for the top six most viewed prime-time programs, eight of the top ten.
The Sunday Night Football match up on NBC between the Chicago Bears and San Francisco 49ers was viewed by 22.16 million people.
Last week, the NFL was heavily scrutinized for the handling of former Baltimore Ravens' running back Ray Rice's domestic violence issue. Later in the week the league was again thrust into the spotlight when superstar running back Adrian Peterson was indicted on child abuse charges in Texas.
