The City of Redding is about ramp up water use restrictions for all of its residents.
City staff is recommending the City Council to implement Stage II of the city's Drought Management Plan immediately. The council is expected to take action on the stricter water use rules at a special meeting on Tuesday.
Under Stage II, residents will have to follow the new state mandated conservation measures, including allowing no runoff when watering outdoor landscaping, no watering hard surfaces and no washing cars without a hose fitted with a shut-off nozzle. In addition, residents will only be allowed to water lawns and other landscaping on certain days and times of the week.
According to a staff report, the city water utility customers have cut their water use by 11 percent this year. But the city's water conservation goal is 15 percent.
Because of National Night Out activities on Tuesday, the City Council is holding its Tuesday meeting at 5 p.m.
